Cavity Wall Ties

When to seek our wall tie replacement services

Wall tie failure is now a common fault frequently picked up in property surveys due to the fact that only stainless steel wall ties will last the test of time and properties any older than 10-20 years will have substandard ties. These rust and cause major damage to the brickwork by way of expansion, or rust bleeding.

Ascot Damp Proofing specialise in the installation of wall tie replacements; preventing distortion and damage to the brickwork, which is just one of the measures used by our qualified building repair and property maintenance team to ensure great results for you at affordable prices.

How does wall tie replacement work?

We do this by using one of two methods.

Method One:

  • Pre drill brickwork to a given pattern through brickwork joints – not through face of bricks, which would cause damage to cavity side of face work, filling up the cavities.
  • Clean out drilled holes with water/air lines. Then install new stainless steel wall ties using special resin, or mechanically fixed ties.

Method Two:

  • Cut out brickwork to a given pattern, exposing the cavity, and install new stainless steel fishtail wall ties, using special resin, or mechanical fixings.
  • Replace bricks prior to repointing.
  • In addition, by opening the cavity in this way, it enables us to attend to many other problems e.g: blocked cavities or damp penetration, and to install air bricks where necessary.
  • This method is the preferred system, which leaves your property looking as good as new.

Both systems are completed by the isolation of the old ties to prevent further damage.
